Remembering The Mix Tape Years

Making your own tapes was hugely popular from the late 70's to mid 80's and became a huge part of youth culture. The most common home made tape though was the mixtape, a compilation of songs from the same artists or various artists recorded from borrowed vinyl albums or album cassettes. Sometimes the creation would be for social events - like a party or a mates car - sometimes it was for the individual's own personal collection - or for a current girlfriend/boyfriend becoming a highly personal statement of feelings. Mixtapes defined lives, they narrated emotion and can still evoke the memories that will always be tangled up in them.
